"Pines of Rome" , Composed in 1924 by Italian
Ottorino Respighi (1879–1936), a musical revolutionary
that continued Stunning Bravery first publicly
demonstrated by controversial Russian composer,
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840–1893).
As did Tchaikovky, Respigi defied classical music traditions, sometimes repealing them altogether. Where Tchaikovsky employed actual military cannons on stage, Respigi reverently silenced the entire orchestra, to give a small bird a chance to sing its Peace, True testimony to the gorgeousness of a Living Planet, Earth.
While upsetting audiences perhaps stuck in past modes, Resphigi's freshness and unpredictability excited young musicians and composers everywhere.
Please Listen Carefully for the Nightengale's song, which Respigi uses to covertly pivot listeners into intense self-reflection; immediately before the Army advances into the forest.
This specific species of Nightengale whose Song so enthralled Respigi, was forced into extinction soon after the debut of "Pines of Rome ;" terribly grieving Respigi, a devout birder who devoured Nature's infinite Songs in order to integrate them into his compositions.
In today's concert performances, orchestras integrate a tape of the incomparable irreplaceable Song of this last Nightengale.
Listeners often weep.
